Flight preparation

circle-info

This guide assumes, that you are finished with the Before flight checklist section and that the system is suitable to fly with.

If you completed Before flight checklist you might proceed to flight preparation. This includes mainly software checks to see if everything is ready for the flight.

Radio connection

Doodle Labs radios dispose of the three basic LED indicators:

  • WiFi - if the LED lights blue, a device is connected to the Wearable WiFi hotspot. We do not recommend connected through Wifi.

  • BATT - battery LED indicator.

    • Green light: battery is at the HIGH level of charge

    • Orange light: battery is at the MEDIUM level of charge

    • Red light: battery is at the LOW level of charge

    • We do not recommend starting a new flight when battery is at the LOW (red light) level

  • RSSI - Received Signal Strength Indicator

    • Green blinking: wearable is not connected to other device. This indicates no connection has been established between the UAV and the GCS radio. If this state persists, please go through the Before flight checklistagain to see if there is any issue. Note: the radios take up to 1 minute to connect. This process can take longer if there is heavy interference near GCS.

    • Steady green light: These are signal "bar" markers that indicate received signal strength with 4 bars light up meaning strongest and 1 bar lowest signal.

GCS Nexus software connection check

If the UAV is turned on and radio connection is established, you can proceed to open the operator GCS laptop to check if everything is okay before take off.

  • Go into Operator Screen (B) in the Nexus GCS software.

  • The first indicator is that the UAV should be displayed in the (A) section of screen, if it is there, click on it. After clicking, everything else appears on the screen, similar to the image above.

  • Check section (C) if Ardupilot, Gimbal and Camera indicators are green. Note: Vision package is not available atm, so it is okay if that one is grayed out.

  • You can check battery status, in section (D).

  • UAV should be also visible on satellite maps (E).

  • If desired, wait for the camera image to appear in section (F), however flight is of course possible without the video too.
