# Manual flight

In this tutorial you will learn how to manually fly Stribog UAS.

{% hint style="warning" %}
This section assumes, that you are successfully connected to Stribog using Doodle Labs and GCS. You can take a look at this process in section [Connecting to Stribog UAS](/uas-platforms/discovery-stribog/stribog-uas-user-manual/connecting-to-stribog-uas.md).
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="warning" %}
Before flying the mission, **make sure you really understand controls of your GCS**. Incorrect use of your device and vehicle **may result into damaging themselves, or someone's property.**
{% endhint %}

{% step %}
**Arming and takeoff**

There are two options of how to take off with Stribog UAS:

{% tabs %}
{% tab title="Takeoff using takeoff command" %}
**Using takeoff command**

Using this option your Stribog will take off automatically into predefined height.

Select `Takeoff` button on the left side of the screen.

<figure><img src="/files/1CIzjz6p4k4rNnmIklvZ" alt=""><figcaption><p>Takeoff button position</p></figcaption></figure>

Now you can adjust takeoff height relative to your current drone position using slider on the right side of the screen.

<figure><img src="/files/MzOKnIrmaDb4c0wxnLu4" alt=""><figcaption><p>Slider position</p></figcaption></figure>

**When you are done, slide the Takeoff slider while holding throttle stick fully down to start takeoff.** You can release throttle stick once Stribog starts flying.

Takeoff sequence will switch autopilot into `Guided` mode. Now your Stribog will slowly gain height to its predefined level.

When the drone is on the desired position, you can switch to `Loiter` mode by pressing `X` button (by default).
{% endtab %}

{% tab title="Manual takeoff (advanced)" %}
**Manual takeoff**

{% hint style="warning" %}
Manual takeoff is designed for advanced users and is not recommended to beginners.
{% endhint %}

In this section you will use `Loiter` mode to take off with the drone. `Loiter` mode maintains the current location, heading and altitude automatically, which makes it suitable for beginner operators.

{% hint style="warning" %}
To use `Loiter` mode, your GPS has to be successfully connected to satellite network.
{% endhint %}

Make sure, you have Loiter mode selected. You can find current selected mode in the upper bar of GCS. To select Loiter, click on the text field, which will open menu of all possible flying modes.

<figure><img src="/files/xUZPzX8fL2WQxbAuqaTh" alt=""><figcaption><p>Fly mode selector location</p></figcaption></figure>

Select `Loiter` mode.

<figure><img src="/files/KjOkaSZj66nxEQzIrmbF" alt=""><figcaption><p>Fly modes bar with Loiter selection</p></figcaption></figure>

Now you can arm the drone. Open Vehicle status menu by clicking on `Ready To Fly` text.

<figure><img src="/files/duIZkUq5FCKtr6O72R60" alt=""><figcaption><p>REady to fly button position</p></figcaption></figure>

Click on the `Arm` button.

<figure><img src="/files/yCuVNh15G9w1zkvvmcqC" alt=""><figcaption><p>Arm button position</p></figcaption></figure>

This will close the window and arm slider will appear in the upper center of the screen. To arm the drone, **slide arm slider while holding throttle stick fully down**.

<div><figure><img src="/files/QluMJsbef1KF1kEaFnPy" alt="" width="225"><figcaption></figcaption></figure> <figure><img src="/files/OKesF8vKIDyjYWRJiVqh" alt=""><figcaption><p>Arm slider</p></figcaption></figure></div>

When drone is armed, its propellers will start spinning at slower rotation rate. **You can release throttle stick to its default value**. Don't worry, the drone won't take off yet.

To take off with the drone, move the throttle stick slightly up, until the drone starts slowly moving up in the air.
{% endtab %}
{% endtabs %}
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**In flight controls**

{% hint style="info" %}
We recommend to move the sticks **very gently** at first. By doing so you can prevent sudden and unexpected changes in movement of the drone and possible crashes.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="info" %}
In `Loiter` mode, releasing the control sticks will cause the drone to automatically stabilize and maintain its current position.
{% endhint %}

**Emergency stop**

Emergency stop is designed to immediately stop all motors whether the aircraft is flying or not. Its purpose is to prevent damage, injury, or further operational issues.

**Emergency stop can be activated anytime.**

Press **`L1`** and **`R1`** together **to activate emergency stop** (default settings). You can find these buttons at the top of the Steamdeck.

<figure><img src="/files/F0ISUTB2HLIuuJy49bzx" alt=""><figcaption><p>Emergency stop buttons location</p></figcaption></figure>

{% hint style="danger" %}
**Activating Emergency disarm will immediately stop all motors, causing the drone to fall from the sky. Keep in mind, that falling drone may also cause injury or damage to its surroundings. Use emergency stop cautiously.**
{% endhint %}
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Landing and disarming**

There are two options of landing the Stribog UAS. You can use Land command or manual landing and disarming.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Always check your landing area for obstacles or uneven terrain to avoid damaging or crashing the drone.
{% endhint %}

{% tabs %}
{% tab title="Land command" %}
There are three options to initiate Land command:

**Option 1**

Option 1 is the simplest way to land the Stribog. Simply press **`A`** button (by default) on Steamdeck to initiate automatic Land sequence. Wait until your drone lands and disarms itself automatically.

{% hint style="info" %}
You can cancel the landing procedure at any time by switching modes. For example, pressing the **`X`** button during landing will switch the drone to `Loiter` mode, allowing you to regain control.
{% endhint %}

**Option 2**

Click on `Land` button located on the left side of the screen.

<figure><img src="/files/NKU2k5qqt1kjr3U9Pclc" alt=""><figcaption><p>Land button position</p></figcaption></figure>

A slider will appear in the upper center of your screen. Slide it to confirm Land command.

<figure><img src="/files/9y8lQJH05rRNdhV6bUYL" alt=""><figcaption><p>Lan slider position</p></figcaption></figure>

**Option 3**

Open flight mode menu by pressing current mode text field.

<figure><img src="/files/eQnGeL5qjmxWJG4oN6f2" alt=""><figcaption><p>flight mode position</p></figcaption></figure>

Select `Land` option to initiate Land sequence.

<figure><img src="/files/pSfX66UnVyTlxR3UK4oe" alt=""><figcaption><p>flight modes bar</p></figcaption></figure>

Wait until your aircraft automatically lands and disarms itself.
{% endtab %}

{% tab title="Manual landing (advanced)" %}
{% hint style="warning" %}
Manual landing is designed for advanced users and is not recommended to beginners.
{% endhint %}

1. Switch your drone to `Loiter` mode.
2. Position your aircraft about 10m above the desired landing area.
3. Gently decrease your throttle using throttle stick until your drone starts slowly descending and hold your throttle stick on the same level.
4. When the drone touches the ground, disarm it by pressing **`L1`** and **`R1`** simultaneously (also used for emergency disarm).
5. Wait until the propellers stop spinning.
   {% endtab %}
   {% endtabs %}

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Always keep your distance from landing or armed drone. Rotating propellers may cause serious injuries.**
{% endhint %}
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Post-flight**

If Stribog is disarmed, turn it off by pressing and holding power button until GPS LEDs fade out.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}
